The challenge:
To create a warm and inviting, yet completely unique home theater from an unfinished space within the client’s basement. Not only did the space need to meet aesthetic expectations, but it also needed to perform for the client on a high level both sonically and visually.

Working with the client:

The design team exceeded expectations by expanding into the existing part of the basement by only five feet, thereby allowing space for an equipment rack and cabinet and an additional seating area for dining. One of the most unique elements of this theater is the custom created filmstrip lights flanking the sides of the space and also providing overhead lighting for the eating area. What is most exciting is the ability for the filmstrips to transition from white to blue, thereby giving the space a completely different feel. Using some of the client’s existing equipment, such as the Elite receiver and 400-disc CD changer, the system was supplemented with additional power, performance and control to meet the requirements of a 7.1 Martin Logan surround system. The Key Digital HDLEEZA was chosen to further push the performance envelope of the Sharp XVZ1200 DLP Projector and Stewart Filmscreen Firehawk. Sound enhancement was accomplished by using RPG Badpanels and Modex Corners to create a smooth and diffused sound field.

The Results:

Meeting design and performance expectations came with both challenges and rewards. Having met all challenges, the client, family and friends now enjoy a unique, warm and inviting custom home theater that is dazzling both visually and sonically.
